During this new decade, let’s not forget furry friends who need a helping paw, too. Animal charities are not just for cats and dogs, but they are also specialized for horses, wolves, or even endangered species of animals. Consider giving to one or more of these five animal charities and be the helping paw an animal needs this year!

  1. Best Friends Animal Society

Best Friends Animal Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization collecting donations to stop the killing of canines and felines in animal adoption shelters around the nation. Recently, during the holiday season, the organization ran a Save Them All campaign. Whatever donation was given was matched to a maximum of $2 million. That means more money goes into helping the cats and dogs in need to find forever homes.

  1. Star Paws Rescue

Star Paws Rescue was founded by Los Angeles casting director Victoria Burrows. She saw there was a need for canine advocates to help injured and abandoned dogs in the area. Make any donation or supporters can volunteer their time at the organization.

  1. Apex Protection Project

The Apex Protection Project engages in wolf rescue, wolf and wolfdog advocacy, and education about the species. There are currently eight rescue wolves and two pit bulls at the shelter now. To support the organization, donate directly, volunteer, or consider adopting one of the wolfdogs. Depending on the amount a person donates per month when adopting a wolfdog will determine the title assigned to the individual. Check out more details about adopting a wolfdog by clicking here.

  1. Ride On

Ride On is a 25-year-old non-profit that offers therapeutic horse riding to about 225 people each week and has helped over 100,000 people with various disabilities and therapeutic needs. Donate any dollar amount by visiting here.

  1. The Gentle Barn

The Gentle Barn gives sick and neglected farm animals a second chance at a new life. At-risk youth tour the shelter regularly to learn how to behave with others. Hence, this organization gives back to the community in two impactful ways. Donate by clicking here.
